Champagne-fuelled Retail Therapy

Paid a little visit to my new friend Susanna’s design studio with the forever stylish and lovely fashion blogger Jing, with the promise of insider scoop of S.Nine’s latest collection and flowing champagne.

Hidden in a commercial building in Soho, Susanna’s studio is minimalist and functional, a clean background to show off her collection. It serves as her office-cum-studio and also a private showroom where her clients can devour her collection.

Susanna welcomed us with a warm hug and a glass of rose champagne. As a self-proclaimed foodie who is always hungry and thirsty, I have to admit that I was distracted immediately by the bubbly. Perfect temperature (champagne best served at 7 – 9C to retain the bubbles), fresh and fruity, with fabulous fruit and floral aromas, and elegantly dry.

As Susanna realised how much I was enjoying my first drink of the evening, she let me into her little secret – that she stocks cases and cases of this little baby in mini size as she usually pops open one for herself in the evening while sketching her designs. And guess where she found it? At good old Marks & Spencer.

M&S Mini Rosado Cava Prestige Brut

Only traditional Spanish Trepat and Garnacha grape varieties are used to produce this cava, which tastes just as good as any rose champagne I have tried of more prestigious brands. The expressive sparkle is produced by careful maturation in the bottle for a nine-month period. I am totally in love with this attitude. We don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy quality things in life, and good drinking experience is not limited to big names.

After exchanging views on our favourite champagnes / sparkling wines, we turned our attention back to all the sexy, body-flattering flocks in the showroom with Susanna’s signature pleating and draping. Her designs are classic yet modern, romantic yet functional, and luxurious yet understated, just like any modern woman. I was totally in love with her range of New York chic, slightly edgy but feminine pieces, and got even more excited to find out we both studied at Parsons.

Susanna has a great eye and instinctively knows what would suit her clients. She pulled out this sexy little black dress with contrasting texture of jersey and leather. However, this was what I settled on.

The lovely designer pulled out this dress from the rack and convinced me to try it on. Intially I was a bit shy to try on the almost-completely-backless dress, but the moment I had it on I knew I could not leave without it. However, the smallest size she had available was still a little bit too loose around my torso so she is making one in my size, and in PINK. This is why everyone should shop here: impeccable service, great fit and made-to-measure tailoring.

SS 2011 Paula Dress

She pulled out one last little black dress and steamed it on the spot, insisting that I should try it on as “No one else can ever fit into this dress, and now perhaps I have finally found someone who can.” Even though it’s from last year’s SS collection, it’s a classic one-shoulder shape with the perfect draping and comfortable yet flattering fit.
